Mission Impossible? - Sustainable hunting tourism

The conference focuses on the problematics of sustainable hunting tourism, especially from the entrepreneurship aspect: How and under which conditions can hunting tourism be developed in northern Europe? What are the benefits, risks and preconditions?
The first day of the conference is dedicated to business development and marketing of hunting tourism. The second day is more academic presenting the latest international research results relating to the hunting tourism sector. The presentations cover all of the three pillars of sustainability (ecological, social and economic).
The conference programme includes expert presentations from 7 different countries. Also entrepreneurs from 4 northern countries will provide insights to the challenges the hunting tourism companies face. The conference provides an excellent opportunity for actors of the hunting and tourism sectors to share their experiences and learn from each other. In addition, a business- to- business meeting for the hunting tourism entrepreneurs is organized in connection with the conference.
Location:
The conference will be organised in Finland in the city of Rovaniemi. The conference venue is Arktikum, which is located in the centre of Rovaniemi. Zoomit is the official bar of the conference: conference guests will receive their drinks at VIP-prices.

The conference is targeted for entrepreneurs, business advisors and developers, researchers, educators, administrators and policy makers related to the topic.
Speakers:
We are proud to announce that Dr. Campbell is the keynote speaker on 18th of November of our conference. Dr. Michael Campbell is a Professor at the University of Manitoba. He has done significant research on the human aspect of natural resources. One of his specific research interests is hunting tourism. Dr. Campbell has also published extensively on wildlife management and tourism. He is currently working on a multi year project in wildlife tourism in Uganda and an evaluation of the effectiveness of "Bear Smart" initiatives in the recreational/ tourism landscape of Manitoba's boreal forests. At the Mission Impossible-conference Dr. Campbell will give a keynote speech on Public attitudes to tourism and recreation based hunting: implications for operators and DMOs.
The keynote speaker for the first conference day, 17th of November, is Mr. Kai Wollscheid , the former Director General of the International Council for Game and WIldlife Concervation (CIC). Kai Wollscheid (Germany) served as CIC's Director General from 2002 until the end of September 2010. Convinced of the hunters’ key role in conservation, he likes to think out of the box and sees sustainable hunting always in the context of conservation, cultural traditions, and rural development. Coming from a family with a longstanding tradition in hunting, Kai Wollscheid is a keen hunter and fisherman since his early years. He holds an MSc. in forestry and did research and development work in Tibet, before joining the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya. Later, he worked in Brussels for the Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation (FACE).
In addition there will also be lectures e.g. by Dr Yves Lecocq from FACE (Federation of Associations for Hunting and Concervation in European Union), Mr. Malte Glun from the travel
agency Jagdreisen Glunz from Germany, Dr Fredrik Dahl from Swedish university of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden, Dr Jukka Bisi from Metsähallitus, Finland and Mr Ere Grenfors from the
Finnish Hunters' Association, Finland. In addition other experts in hunting and tourism sectors are contributing to the conference, among others hunting tourism entrepreneurs from Finland, Sweden,
Iceland and Scotland will tell their experiences related to the challenges of hunting tourism business.
